As many of you may be planning a camping trip, or may have already ventured into the backcountry, we wanted to welcome you back for the 2020 season at Lake Superior Provincial Park! Besides our patch, magnet, and sticker options that come with the purchase of a Friends of Lake Superior Park membership, our t-shirts have just arrived! They're socially conscious and Canadian-made by Jerico and will be available at LSPP, with the purchase of a Friends of LSP membership.
While 2019 was a busy season for the Friends of Lake Superior Park (check out the projects page on our website), this year we've been spending more time gathering ideas for the future.
One of the project areas we're most excited about exploring is enhancing the park's Dark Sky Preserve. LSPP staff are considering the feasibility of having a telescope permanently available and the Friends of LSP would be happy to help. We may be looking for help from folks with grant writing experience.
We received a donation from a family who wants to help us provide opportunities for young people in LSPP. Some funding ideas we've been considering are:
transportation for school groups to visit the park
bursaries for graduate students conducting research in the park
contract extensions for student staff members
wellness supports for staff
working with elementary and secondary students to install duck nesting boxes, including an educational component for the youth involved
We'll update you on these ideas soon! Happy camping!
P.S. You can become an official member of the Friends of Lake Superior Park by purchasing a membership on our website or at LSPP.
